Dr Pokorny uses prostate MRI scanning in the diagnosis of possible prostate cancer. Dr Pokorny is a world expert in prostate MRI and has published several papers in prostate MRI, and has been a regular invited speaker on this topic at national and internaitional meetings over the last four years.
MRI guided prostate biopsy
Dr Pokorny performs MRI-guided prostate biopsy to diagnose prostate cancer. This involves using only 2-4 needles, without anaesthetic, compared to the traditional ultrasound methods which use anaesthetic and between 12 to 30 needles typically. Dr Pokorny and Dr Thompson led the first Australian trial comparing MRI guided biopsy to standard TRUS biopsy.
